Trauma

  • For those who've experienced violence or abuse

Individual trauma-focused treatment will focus on first helping you understand the brain science behind trauma reactions and then teach you ways to manage them.  Then we'll target the issues you find most difficult and will give you tools to be present in your life again, with less fear and worry.

Coping with serious illness and loss

  • For those who've been diagnosed with a serious illness or are caring for someone who has

Being given a frightening diagnosis--or caring for someone who has--tends to change the way that we look at our lives and what is most meaningful.  It also can bring up old fears and resentments as relationships shift.  In therapy you talk about all these things without judgment and we'll target the most difficult aspects of this new reality to help you feel more grounded.

Vicarious Trauma

  • For those who face trauma in their work

Very often when we experience repeated traumatic situations at work, we actually begin to have the same fears and reactions as those directly affected by the trauma.  This 'vicarious trauma' is more the rule than the exception for firefighters, police, journalists, paramedics, and other medical personnel.   We will work together to manage and reduce the reactions you're having, making it easier to cope with stress and help to prevent burnout.

Substance use

  • For those concerned about the effects of their drug or alcohol use

If your drug or alcohol use is feeling out of control, therapy can be a good place to talk about your concerns without judgment and make a plan that works for you.  At any stage--from wanting to explore the reasons for your use to wanting to stop altogether-- we can give you tools to help you feel in control of your life again.

Individual therapy

  • adults and adolescents

One-on-one treatment focusing on whatever is making you feel stuck or disconnected.  This can be  depression, anxiety, phobias, relationship or family issues, etc.  Essentially, you set goals for what you'd like to achieve in therapy and we'll work together to help you reach them.  We'll look at how your thoughts, feelings, and actions are linked, and help you to feel more in control of your mood.
